Rifle shoots

These events run from 9 am to 2 pm, and are a great opportunity to meet other members and shoot different rifles. You can shoot most calibers, but no armor piercing, green tip, or magnum rounds. We provide lunch for a $5 donation, and we really appreciate help with setup and breakdown.

Meet at the Arlington shed on the 100 yard range at 8 am.

Pistol Shoots

Our steel plate pistol shoots are held on the 50 yard pistol range from 9 am to 2 pm, and are a great opportunity to meet other members and shoot different pistols. Our members like to share. We have lots of different steel targets set up from 7 to 50 yards, but please, no magnum rounds, AR pistols, or pistol caliber carbines. This is a pistol shoot. We provide lunch for a $5 donaton, and we really appreciate help with setup and breakdown.

Meet at the Arlington shed on the 100 yard range at 8 am.

Bustfest

Bring out your shotguns!

It’s simple: bring $15 or a box of clays, and shoot all the clays you want.
You have to bring your own ammo. We set up 2 Lincoln throwers on one of the trap ranges and take turns launching and shooting. We cook lunch on the grill, so bring a $5 donation.

This is a great way to meet other members and shoot a bunch of different shotguns. Ammo is limited to 1200 fps sizes 7.5, 8, or 9 per AGC rules.

tactical steel shoots

Held on the action shooting range, these are a great way to learn and practice for 2 gun and 3 gun events. We set up a few courses of fire, and run them several times. Sometimes we run teams. Friendly competition for best time, great coaching, and skill building. NOTE: these events are not for the beginning shooter. We encourage all shooters to become proficient with static bench shooting before “running and gunning”.

AR platforms are preferred for ease of uniformity, .223 / 5.56. No 300 blackout, green tip, or armor piercing rounds please. Pistol – 9mm, .45, .40, no magnum rounds. Holster and holster certification is required.

Setup is at 8 am.

Tuesday night steeL

Held on the action shooting range from early Spring to late Fall, daylight and weather dependent. As with our tactical steel shoots – we set up courses of fire at 5:15, and shoot until dusk. These events are great for the novice action shooter who is buying and trying new equipment, and wants to learn to shoot better – and safely.

carbine clinics

ARPC invests in its member's safety on the range through a mentoring program. This program includes clinics that support practical and safe gun handling skills in a dynamic environment. The ARPC has been
conducting Carbine clinics for its members since 2015. This particular mentoring program addresses shooter mindset, basic marksmanship, barriers, movement, malfunctions, holster work, magazine drills,
target selection and transitions. Interested members should check the club events schedule and email the ARPC XO for details.

Trap league

The Saturday Evening Trap League is hosted by Arlington Rifle & Pistol Club.  All AGC card holders, or immediate family members thereof (i.e. wife, son or daughter), and active Junior members of an AGC affiliated club are welcome to participate.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in a formal trap event.  By virtue of the Lewis Class scoring system, which is used to determine final standings, the League is handicapped so that shooters are competing against individuals of equal ability.  The evening hours generally prove to be nice temperature wise and the floodlights are used at dusk.

Specifics

  • The League generally competes the first Saturday of every month from March through October, inclusive.  To avoid the July 4th and Labor Day weekends, competitions are held on the second Saturday in July and September.  Check the Club Calendar for exact dates.

  • Check-in is at 5:15pm on Trap #3 and shooting begins at 6pm.

  • The course of fire each month consists of two rounds of trap and your total number of hits constitutes your monthly score.

  • Your end-of-season score is the total of your four best monthly scores.

  • Monthly costs, to cover the birds, are $8 for AGC members, $12 for immediate family members, and $6 for Juniors (trap tickets will be accepted).

  • There is a onetime non-refundable $15 entry fee that goes into the prize fund.

  • End-of-year prizes are given out based on the Lewis Class scoring system; the rule of ‘one class for every six shooters’ will prevail.

  • 1st and 2nd place prizes are awarded in each class (have roughly a one in three chance of winning).

An individual is allowed to enter the League at any time, but must compete a minimum of four months to be eligible for end-of-year prizes.

If you would like to participate or desire more information please contact the League Chairman, Richard Durant.

bench rest league

Tired of shooting offhand or from the prone position?  Having problems with the shakes or getting up once you get down?  Try sitting in a comfortable position and shooting off a stable platform.  Sound good, then ARPC’s Benchrest League is for you!

Seriously, Benchrest shooting is a very precise sport where individuals attempt to shoot 5 bullets into the smallest group possible (all in one hole).  Winning scores in competition are determined by how well each competitor achieves this goal or in other words, how closely the shots are grouped.  Shooters make use of a front and rear rest for their rifles, and the rests sit on a solid table or bench, hence the name "Benchrest."

Specifics

  • The League generally competes the third Sunday of every month from March through October, inclusive.  To avoid Father’s Day, competition will be held on the second Sunday in June.  Check the Club Calendar for exact dates.

  • The League utilizes the Benchrests located on the far right of the Barnes Multi-Purpose Range.

  • There are two types of competition; rimfire at 50 yards and centerfire at 100 yards.  Individuals can compete in either event or both.

  • Course of fire for both events consists of shooting a five shot group at each of five targets.  If competing in both events, the course of fire for both must be completed in the designated 2 ½ hour time slot.

  • Start/finish time depends upon which Group you are assigned to.  Group 1’s time slot is 10am – 12:30pm; Group 2’s is 1:30pm – 4pm.  Individuals in Group 1 must have their bench cleared at 1pm in order to allow setup time for Group 2.  All shots, sighter and score, are only allowed during your designated time slot.  All targets must be turned in by 4:30pm.

  • Monthly score is based on the shooters tightest group out of the five targets.  End-of-year score/ranking is based on an average of the four best monthly scores.

  • Any safe rifle is allowed and ideally should be equipped with a scope of 32X or greater magnification.  Additional equipment includes adjustable front rest and fixed/solid rear rest; sleds are not allowed.

  • Each competitor must provide their own target frame.  USBR targets will be utilized and provided.

  • An individual is allowed to enter the League at any time, but must compete a minimum of four months to obtain an end-of-year ranking.

If you would like to participate or desire more information please contact the League Chairman, Richard Durant, at durantrichard1@gmail.com

Target Frame Builds

ARPC builds target frames for the AGC to sell, with sales benefitting the junior’s program. We have an assembly line set up near the club shed on the Barnes multipurpose range to knock out as many as we can in 3-4 hours.

We have it down to a science! This is a great way to meet club members and is done in the true spirit of volunteerism and team building.
