Target Frame Build Sunday, 13 September

To Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club,

We are having an impromptu target frame build Sunday from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the lower Barnes Range House classroom. This is a fundraiser for our Juniors Team. We build target frames on an assembly line basis where each person performs one or two simple tasks. No tools or experience is required. We have a lot of fun and you will leave with a good feeling that you helped our Juniors team.

Thank You,

Correction to This Weekend’s Events

The previous announcement said the frame build was on the 22nd, but it is actually on Sunday the 23rd.

Sunday, August 23rd, Frame preparation for the tournament at the Juniors shed on the Barnes Range, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – We need your help working on the competition target frames. The more hands we have the quicker it will go. Please bring your cordless drill if you have one, but if you don’t come out anyway because it takes two people to assemble each of the frames.

Thank You,
Rob

Arlington Rifle & Pistol Club August Newsletter

To Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club,

It’s hard to believe it is almost August! We have a busy month scheduled.

Every Tuesday Night – Tuesday Night Steel Shoots from 5:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. at the 200-yard range – Paul has been running our Tuesday Night Steel Shoot events. These are action shoots with AR-15 rifle and standard caliber pistol. The event is very popular. Bring at least 100 rounds of non-armor piercing .223 or 5.56 caliber rifle and at least 100 standard caliber pistol rounds. Warning: If you bring more ammo, you will probably use it!

** Friday, July 31st, Frame build prep – from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. We need some help cutting the wood to prepare for Saturday’s frame build. Please come to the Juniors shed and lend a hand.

Saturday, August 1st – Fundraiser Frame Build – we will be having a frame build from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Lower Barnes Range House. No tools or wood working skills are required. We work on an assembly line basis, where each person performs one or two simple tasks. It is a lot of fun and all proceeds go to our Juniors Program.

Saturday, August 8th, Bust Fest, – from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – We will be having our very popular Bust Fest trap shoot. This is a very popular shoot where each shooter keeps shooting 1 – 2 birds at a time. It is a lot of fun and a great way to learn how to shoot trap. Ammo requirements: First, bring a lot of ammo. You will use it. The AGC requires Trap Shooters to shoot Standard Target Loads with #7.5, #8 or # 9 size shot and have a velocity of 1200 Feet Per Second or less. Most target loads for shotgun fall in this range. Ammo is available for sale if you don’t have time to get any. The bust fest is also a good opportunity to try out different shotguns to figure out what kind you want to buy next.

Wednesday, August 12th Club meeting from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall. It is a great opportunity to find out current and future club events. Bring your show and tell items that you would like to share with the club. If you have anything you want to sell, give away or trade, the swap area in the back of the room is available.

Saturday, August 15th – Frame Build from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. In the Lower Barnes Range House- we will be checking over and refurbishing the Competition target frames. We will be having another tournament on August 30th and want to make for sure we are ready. No skills are required. We will have all of the tools that are needed.

Saturday, August 22nd – Steel Plate Rifle Shoot – from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the 100-yard range. We will be shooting steel plates with centerfire rifle. If anyone is interested, you can earn your Winchester Marksmanship Certificate and Patch(s).

Sunday, August 30th – Small Bore 3 position match from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Barnes Range – Arlington is sponsoring it’s first 3–position small bore Juniors match. We are expecting 50–60 shooters. This match will go a lot faster than the Libby. Please come out and help us. We need a lot of hands to assist with the set up, running and taking down our shoot.

Thank you all very much to all of our volunteers! We could not possibly have the variety and quality of programs that our club puts on without your help.

Have a wonderful August!

Rob

We Need You for a Frame Build on Saturday, July 11th

The AGC is running out of Arlington frames, so we will be having a frame build this coming Saturday, July 11th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please come out and help support our Juniors program fundraiser. We build the frames on an assembly line. Each person performs one or two simple tasks. No special skills or tools are required. We will be building frames behind the Juniors shed on the Barnes Multipurpose Range.

**If you are available this Friday, we could use some help cutting the wood at the Juniors shed around 11:00 a.m. to get it ready for the frame build.

Reminder:

July 8th – Club meeting in Memorial Hall from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Catch up on upcoming events and have fun meeting with club members. Don’t forget to bring your show and tell items.

July 12th – Steel Plate Pistol Shoot from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the pistol range. Please come out early at 8:00 a.m. to help set up.

July 26th – 3-gun shoot with Greenbelt and Old Post from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. We will be shooting AR-15 rifles with either .223 or 5.56 rounds (non armor piercing), standard caliber pistol and target loads for shotgun. We recommend you bring “at least” 100 rounds of rifle, 100 rounds of pistol, and a box of 25 rounds of shotgun ammo. We often have a free shoot after the program, so bringing some extra ammunition is always a good idea. We will need a lot of help to set up the targets and food areas, so please come out at 8:00 a.m. to help.

Tuesday Night Tactical Shoots:
These are held Tuesday nights from 5:15 – 8:15 p.m. at the 200-yard range. Bring “at least” 100 rounds of rifle and 100 rounds of pistol ammunition. Check your email and club web site before coming out for these shoots. If the weather is going to be bad, the Tuesday Night Tactical Shoot will be cancelled.

Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club Newsletter for June 2015

Arlington has had an amazing year so far!

Our Annual Libby Juniors Match – We just finished the largest Libby Match that anyone can remember having. We had teams from Virginia and the surrounding area compete. I have never been so proud of our club as I was this Saturday. We had at least 30 Arlington volunteers and several volunteers from other AGC clubs help us this Saturday. Anything that needed to be done, we had a swarm of volunteers pitching in to help. Please accept my heartfelt thanks for coming out to support the area youth this weekend.

Tuesday night Multi-Gun Steel Shoots – People are all asking about our Tuesday night shoots. Paul is doing a terrific job on expanding our run and gun Action Shooting program.

Last Sunday’s 3-gun shoot was a joint event with Old Post, Greenbelt and Arlington. It is always a great time shooting with these clubs. They have terrific people who are fun to shoot with and always pitch in with anything that needs to be done. We had a lot of fun breaking in the new tactical steel targets we purchased. Everyone had a blast running though the course. Each time, Paul would put a different twist on the course to make it more interesting.

Women on Target – We had six Arlington Club members get their NRA Basic Instructor Training and earn their NRA Instructors Certificate in pistol last weekend. We hope to have our first training class in the late summer. Thank you to our club members who attended this training.

Upcoming events:

Tuesday Night Tactical Shoot will be held every Tuesday evening from 5:15 – 8:00 p.m. at the 200-yard range. Paul will be running everyone though our tactical steel course. Bring your AR-15 and pistol. Ammunition requirements: You will be restricted to .233 or 5.56 non-armor piercing rifle ammunition. Pistol Ammunition may be of any standard caliber.

Wednesday, June 10th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. our June Club Meeting will be held on in Memorial Hall.
We are honored to have a special speaker from MSI talk to us about what is happening in Maryland with gun legislation, court cases and what we can do to help defend our rights. If you want the latest information on what is happening in Maryland gun laws, I highly recommend you attend this meeting. We will discuss our upcoming programs and events. Don’t forget to bring in a show and tell item. I know many of you have been adding to your collections.

Sunday June 14th from 9:00 – a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Steel Plate Pistol Shoot at the Pistol range. We will be shooting steel plates, having an stuffed animal safari shoot, NRA Marksmanship Qualifications, paper targets and possibly a stake shoot or two. These shoots are very popular. Please come out early and help us set up this shoot.

Saturday, June 20 – Fundraiser Frame Build benefitting Arlington Juniors in the lower Barnes Range House. From 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. No tools or experience are necessary, we build the frames on an assembly line basis.

Saturday, June 27th– Bust Fest – For $10, you get to break all the birds you want. The last Bust Fest was a huge success. Come out to one of Arlington’s most popular events. Please remember, target loads only with #7.5, #8, or #9 shot with a velocity of 1200 Feet Per Second (FPS) due to the proximity of Marriottsville road are allowed.

***PLEASE Note the July 4th Frame Build is cancelled due to the Holiday.

Thank you to all of our volunteers. We could not have the quality events that we have without your help.

Have a great spring!

Rob

Big Weekend is planned for Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club

To Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club,

We have a big weekend planned and we need your help on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, May 30th from 9:00 – 12:00, we will be building 30 competition target frames for the upcoming Libby Match. This will be the biggest Libby match in years. We are expecting as many as 75 competitors. Please help us and come out to the Juniors shed and lend a hand. These are simple frames to build. No tools or woodworking skills are required.

Sunday, May 31st from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Arlington, Old Post and Greenbelt are teaming up to have a 3-Gun shoot at the AGC 200 yard range. This will be a good one. We will have our new steel targets out for the shoot. We will need help setting up the targets, so please come out at 8:15 a.m. We also need help with the food concession. We will have a lot of hungry and thirsty shooters. Mom Pat and Pat K. will be taking a class, so we need several good people to support the concession.

ARPC Youth Program Air Rifle Competition Participation

On Sunday, 2 November, the Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club Youth Program participated in a portion of the U.S. Army Junior Air Rifle Precision 60 Shot Standing competition in cooperation with the Dallastown Area High School MCJROTC and the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. The shoot was a sectional match of the US Army Junior Air Rifle Championship (USAJARC). Seven shooters representing two clubs participated in this phase of the match, which takes place over four months at ranges all over the country. At the completion of the match in January, 2015, participating shooters are ranked nationally among all participants.

On Sunday, 14 December, the Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club Youth Program will host the first annual Friendship Air Rifle match between the Monumental Rifle and Pistol Club Juniors Program and the Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club Youth Program. Six shooters from each club will compete in a course of fire consisting of 60 shots with the air rifle from a shooting position of their choice, prone, standing, or kneeling. There will be two relays, 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM, and lunch will be served between the relays. Parents, club members, and other supporters of the shooters are encouraged to come and watch the match.

Thank You,
Brian S.
