Anti-Gun Bill Hearings in Annapolis on Wednesday, January 15, 2020

To Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club,

The Maryland General Assembly is back in session. As usual, they are proposing numerous anti-gun bills that would take away our rights to own a firearm.

You can get up do date comprehensive information on the bills being introduced by the Maryland Legislature on the Maryland Shall Issue Website:

www.marylandshallissue.org. This website has a spreadsheet lists the bills that are being introduced in the Maryland House and Senate and when the hearing dates are. Please go to the website and click on the bills to see what is being introduced. Click on the bill number to get a copy of the bill.

There are three anti-gun bill hearings on Wednesday, January 15, 2020:

House Bill 4 – HB 4: If passed, will make it a criminal offence to loan a rife or shotgun and prohibit you from owning a firearm. The penalty for loaning a gun or borrowing a rifle or shotgun would face up to a 3 to 5 year sentence with a fine of up to $10,000 if this bill passes.

However, if someone steals a gun in Maryland it is considered a misdemeanor and with up to a six-month sentence. Stealing a gun in Maryland does not make you a prohibited person.

This bill would prohibit our club from loaning club owned rifles to club members or our Juniors Parents.

Senate Bill 39– Hearing Date Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

SB 39 adds to the list of firearms that are now banned in Maryland. If passed, this bill would prevent you from buying or selling firearms that the Maryland Senate adds to the banned firearms listing. This bill is infringes on your rights by restricting the firearms you can purchase or sell.

Senate Bill 55– Hearing Date Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

SB55 – Establishes a Maryland Assault Weapons Buyback Fund. This bill is a slippery slope towards banning and confiscation of firearms using your tax dollars.

The hearings on Wednesday January 15, 2020 begin at 1:00 p.m. We need people to come to the hearing to show opposition to the bills. It will be great if you can testify, but just coming out and sitting in the audience will make a difference.

We will have a carpool meeting at the East lot of the Route 32 Park and Ride near I-95. We will leave at 10:15 a.m.

Thank you,

Rob Cowan

President, Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club
