Carbine clinic complete

We completed our spring 2019 beginner carbine clinic on Saturday. What a great day it was. Perfect weather and a great group of shooters. I wanted to thank the members that participated and for their level of attention to safety. Great job everyone. Special thanks to Rick Hensley and Bill O’Loughlin for watching the firing line and coaching members throughout the whole day. Looking forward to the fall for an advanced class.

Thank you

Saturday Evening Arlington Trap League

To Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club,

Saturday Evening Trap League

We are starting a Saturday evening Trap League. This is a unique opportunity to participate in a formal trap event. The League will be handicapped so that shooters are competing against individuals of equal ability. The evening hours should prove to be nice temperature wise and we will be using the floodlights at dusk.

Specifics are:

· the League will meet on the first Saturday of every month from March through October, inclusive, from 6 to 9pm

· check-in will be on Trap #3 at 5:15pm

· March will be a practice/get acquainted month, followed by seven months of competition

· the course of fire each month will consist of two rounds of trap and your total number of hits will constitute your monthly score

· your end-of-season score will be the total of your four best monthly scores

· monthly costs, to cover the birds, will be $8 for AGC members, $12 for non-AGC members, and $6 for Juniors (trap tickets will be accepted)

· there will be a onetime $15 entry fee that goes into a prize fund

· end-of-year awards will be given out based on the Lewis Class scoring system; the rule of ‘one class for every six shooters’ will prevail

· 1stand 2ndplace prizes will be awarded in each class (have a one in three chance of winning)

· a shooter will be allowed to enter the League at any time, but must compete a minimum of four months to be eligible for end-of-year awards

· only AGC card holders, or immediate family members thereof, and active Junior members of an AGC affiliated club will be allowed to compete

In keeping with Arlington’s spirit of fun and fellowship, members of other AGC clubs are welcome to participate.

Since we are a little late getting the League started this year, there will be no practice/get acquainted month and the season will start the first Saturday in May. This means we will have a shortened six month season but all the rules remain the same.

If you are interested in participating please contact the League Chairman, Richard Durant, at

Arlington will be starting a Saturday Evening Trap League!

To Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club,

Richard Durant has kindly volunteered to run Arlington’s Saturday Trap League. This is a tremendous opportunity for our club. We greatly appreciate Richards efforts to initiate this event.

Now get out there and bust some clays!

We need your help to protect our Club and our Juniors Program

To Club Members, Parents and Coaches,

House Bill 786 Public Safety – Rifles and Shotguns – was voted on and passed by the Maryland House of Representatives. The Maryland Senate’s version of this bill is SB737. The Maryland Senate Judicial Committee is now reviewing SB737. SB737 in its current state will hurt our Juniors Programs and Gun Clubs by preventing the loan of a rifle or shotgun to a parent or club member unless it is during a practice while the “owner” of the rifle or shotgun is with the Junior or club member at the range while they are using the rifle or shotgun.

SB737 would not allow a parent or club member to borrow a rifle or shotgun to enable them to travel to and from their home to take their Junior to the range for independent practice or to take the rifle or shotgun with them to local, state, regional or national competitions.

Under this bill, Gun Clubs and Shooting teams would be forced to transfer ownership of the rifle or shotgun to the parent or club member through an FFL and pay a fee if they wanted to loan a rifle or shotgun to a Gun Club or Shooting Team member. Transferring ownership would create a nightmare of problems for the Gun Club or Shooting Team, not to mention additional expense of over $50 to transfer the rifle to a parent club member, then another $50 to transfer it back to the “owner”/Gun Club or Shooting Team.

This is an expensive sport. It is a huge upfront investment for a club member or parents would not be able to afford. This is why clubs and shooting teams need to be allowed to loan/assign rifles or shotguns to the club member/parent of the Junior, so they can go to the range to practice as their schedule allows. We also need to allow club member/parents to travel with the rifles and shotguns to local, state, regional and national competitions.

Here is the link to the bill that was voted on in the House of Representatives:

Other concerns about this bill:

The current version of the bill does not allow you to store your guns with a neighbor for safety purposes or to prevent theft, with a friend or club member in the event of an emergency or family crisis, when you are having work done on your home or will be out of town on vacation or deployment.

The current version of the bill does not allow for an instructor to loan or be loaned a rifle or shotgun to use for training purposes.

Please take action against this terrible bill and contact your Maryland State Senator to ask that they vote against the Senate version of the Bill: Senate Bill 737.

What you can do:

1. Call your State Senator and ask to speak to someone about Senate Bill 737.

2. You can Email your State Senator.

3. Better yet, make an appointment and meet with your State Senator to discuss your concerns and protect our kids Junior Program from this bill.

**You can email the entire Senate, the Senate Judiciary Committee or just your State Senator. Here is the legislative link to the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore that you can use to contact your Maryland State Senator:

Action Shooting event Saturday 23 March 0900-1200hrs

In lieu of the Berm work weekend cancellation, we can have a small 2 Gun event near Lane 2 of the Action Range as we did last month. There is a little bit of grass in that area. I know this is last minute but we can at least get a few rounds down range as a consolation for not working on the barriers. The movement during the event will be limited to keep things safe.
Bring an AR or AR type rifle in 223 or 5.56, semi auto pistol 9,40,or 45 (No AK’s, Muskets, bolt action or guns that wish they were an AR but are not)

You may wear a sling for this event. Dress weather appropriate and don’t forget your shooting gear (belt, holster, mag holders, etc)

The berm area may not support a lot of parking so be mindful as you may need to park in the lot by the 200yd range.

I’ll be at the club shed at around 0800 to grab steel and setup if anyone wants to come out and help set up.

Berm Work Weekend 23,24 March is Cancelled

Mother nature bit us again with all the rainy weather and made the work area grounds unmanageable and unsafe to perform work with heavy equipment. Sorry for all the back and forth. This was out of our hands. Look at the bright side. We could be living in Nebraska under water instead. Please enjoy your weekend and be safe.
