Greenbelt and Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club 3 Gun Event, Saturday 15 April 0900-1500hrs

Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club and Greenbelt Club will be hosting a joint 3 Gun event on Saturday, 15 April on the AGC 200 yd range from 0900 to 1500. We will have our usual complement of steel and target toys to include our new Texas Star. This is a single stage event and you will be able to run it as much as you like. The course of fire will be determined the morning of the event. Last week’s 3 Gun was a challenge. Wait until you see this weekend’s course. I hope you eat your Wheaties!

Ammo:

.223/ 5.56 only for rifle (no green tip or armor piercing)

.22, 9, 40, 45 for pistol (no magnum)

Bird shot for shotgun (no slugs or buckshot)

Each run of the course will expend about 14 rifle, 12 pistol and 10 shotgun rounds. Most people will get to run it about 4 times in the day. Plan your loadout accordingly. There are no magazine restrictions.

Firearms:

AR and AR type variants only for safety reasons. No muskets, bolt guns, slingshots, AR pistols or AK’s.

Semiauto pistols preferred

Shotgun of your choice as long as it operates safely and doesn’t jam more than it shoots.

Suppressors welcome. (Your welcome Brian T.)

Gear:

Holster, mag holders, shell caddy, pistol belt, full coverage eye pro, ear pro, weather appropriate clothing, and at least two mags per gun. Work gloves are a good idea if you are handling lead infested steel.

Tip of the day: Be sure to check all your pistol rig, shooting kit and guns for fastener tightness. Blue Loctite is your friend. We had parts falling of guns and people at the last weeks event. No safety issues. Great job last week on safety folks! You guys are really keeping it tight.

We will be at the club shed for load out at around 0830hrs and then setup on the 200 yd range. First safety brief is at 0900 and every shooter arriving will get a brief before they participate. No one shoots without a safety brief. Shooter donation for the steel fund is $10 and be sure to bring some cash for some hot chow on the range. Any questions, send me an email through the website to the Executive Officer link. See you there!

April 1st and 2nd Event Wrap-up and Tuesday Night Steel

Members,

We executed a Tactical Carbine Clinic on Saturday and a 3 Gun on Sunday. No shortage of shooting, even for me. The crew on Saturday was a good mix of advanced and intermediate shooters with great attitudes. It was a little muddy out but the guys were safely running and gunning all day. Thanks to those that participated. I hope you all took away some new skills and learned a little about shooter mindset and capabilities working towards your personal shooting goals.

The 3 Gun was a short and sweet, left to right setup. Minimal running but no shortage of steel to slam with lead. Had some new faces and some interested folks coming out to watch. There is no doubt that our club is attracting folks from the other shooting disciplines to the action shooting discipline. I am very proud of how far we have come in just a few years. From our club board members to the members on the line running yesterday’s 3 Gun, I thank you for making this club the best it can be. We can’t make everyone happy but there were an awful lot of smiles at this weekend’s events. It is proof that I need to practice more as there about 6 or 7 of us now that have course times with a few seconds of each other.

Our first Tuesday Night Steel is 4 April. Weather pending, I will be at the club shed around 1730hrs for load out. We will shoot until sundown. The format is informal. We’ll do some drills then have some open shooting time on steel. Donation for Tuesday Night Steel is $5. Subscribe to the club blog through the website and our Tuesday Night Steel Facebook Page for updates and weather cancellations. I will generally try to make a weather call by noon on Tuesday.

Last week’s 3 Gun yielded a bunch of shotgun and rifle malfunctions. Take the time folks to thoroughly clean and perform maintenance on your guns. My shotgun was filthy and not lubed well enough. It failed to go into battery multiple times until I dumped quart of lube into it.

We will be at the club shed for load out at around 0830hrs and then setup on the 200 yd range. First safety brief is at 0900 and every shooter arriving will get a brief before they participate.
