Last Weekend’s 3 Gun Notes

We had a really good turn out for such a cold day at our March 4th 3 Gun last weekend. I’d like to thank all of the folks that participated and donated to the steel fund as well as those that helped with setup and running the event. Big shout out to Bob and Pat Bryan for feeding us both Saturday and Sunday.

Now for the not so good news. I will say we had a very safe event but I think we have to tighten up on the "firearm on safe when you don’t have a sight picture" thing. This is not to embarrass but to reinforce the importance of proper safety on the range. Thanks to vigilant, veteran, action shooting members, we were able to catch it quickly.

The other comment I have to share is that our 3 Gun events are structured events. Meaning, they are setup for competition between members. Although we do have some open shooting at the end, members come to these events to compete against the timer and other members. We never like to discourage guests from coming out and participating with a member. However, a structured event means that people are waiting to shoot. With that said, it is not fair to the other competitors when a member brings multiple guests to shoot and ties up the course of fire. Our 100 yd, 200 yd rifle and 50 yd pistol steel events are fun shoots. Please be courteous and use these events to train beginners and have fun. We had a few potential safety issues with guests and the member was not there with them while shooting. I expect high safety standards at all of the ARPC events and if multiple members tell me there is a problem, I will need to say something. This was one of those occasions.

I don’t like being difficult with people as I want everyone to have fun but my job is to keep people safe on the range as well as keep thing moving along so the shooting majority may have fun. If folks have any questions, concerns or need clarification on what I just explained, please contact me through the XO email address on the website.

Thank you for your understanding.

Paul Casale
