Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club – Upcoming Club Events for January 2016

Sunday, January 3rd – We have a Fundraiser Frame Build from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Lower Barnes Range House. The AGC needs frames, so please come out and help. We build frames on an assembly line basis where each person performs one or two simple tasks. It is a lot of fun and you leave with a good feeling because you helped support our Juniors team.

Sunday, January 10th – Steel Plate Pistol Shoot from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Pistol range. Please make for sure you bring eye and ear protection.

Wednesday, January 13th – Club meeting in Memorial Hall from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a special Guest Speaker. The President of Maryland Shall Issue (MSI) will be speaking to our club about the current gun control issues, including what to expect at the upcoming Maryland Legislative Session. Don’t forget to bring a show and tell item. Also if you have any AGC Raffle tickets, sold or unsold, we need to get them to Dave at the meeting. Please make a last ditch effort to sell any tickets you have.

Sunday, January 24th – Bust Fest! Arlington’s Bust Fest trap shoot will take place on Trap 4 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Ammo Requirements are: Target load only with #7.5, #8 or #9 shot with 1200 Feet Per Second (FPS) or less.

Thanks to all of our volunteers! You are why we can do all that we are doing.

Happy New Year!

Found – Ammo Can…With Ammo!

Okay, okay.  This is not a giveaway, but a legitimate attempt to reunite an ammo can and ammo with its rightful owner.

Found – After the Arlington 3-Gun event on Dec 12th a stout green metal ammo can answering to the name of “Shotgun” was found on the 200 yard range. If you are the owner please see the Treasurer at the next event to be reunited. Several offers for foster homes have already been received.

Saturday –December 26th9:00a.m.3:00 p.m. – 3 Gun Shooting Event

Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club will be hosting another 3 Gun Steel Event. This will be our last multi-gun event for 2015. So bring out those new guns you got for Xmas and help us ring in the New Year with that lead slinging sound or freedom on steel. The cost will be $10 for shooters and range chow will be provided for a monetary donation.

▪    Firearms: Semiautomatic AR type Rifle with 2 mags minimum (100 rounds minimum). Semiautomatic Pistol with 2 mags minimum (100 rounds minimum). Semi-auto or pump shotgun with bird shot only (25 rounds minimum)

▪    Gear: You will need a serviceable pistol holster and mag/ shell carriers of some sort. Combat style rifle sling recommended. Full coverage ballistic eye protection is required(plain, non ballistic, prescription glasses or sunglasses don’t count). Hearing protection of your choice. Be prepared for damp or wet ground by wearing appropriate footwear.

The target arrangement will be determined the morning of the match. There will be required movement between stages with firearms. Scoring will be based on the fastest time for hitting all the targets. There will be a penalty of +5 seconds to your raw time for every target missed. There will be some practice time on the individual stages so all may get more trigger time and less waiting around.

 Important notes:

The safety brief will begin around 0900-0915hrs. If you arrive late, you may not participate until briefed by the match RSO. This event is to test the mental, practical and tactical ability of shooters. Firearm and ammunition restrictions are there for your safety and to keep the playing field somewhat even while keeping the flow of the event moving along. See you there!

NRA Shotgun Instructor Class Offering – January 2016

Michael B. is once again offering NRA Instructor classes to the ARPC membership. In January, he is offering Shotgun Instructor certification classes at a generous discount to ARPC members. Below, please find details and keep in mind the fee is $100.00. The fee for BIT, if required is $30.00.

Michael B. shared the following:
I have also scheduled an NRA Shotgun Instructor Class. I needed to bump up the fee ($100.00) to cover the cost of clays used in the class. Please see the announcement at this link. As before the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) will be offered.

“This class is primarily for members of Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club but is open to all. Pre-registration is required. Please send deposit ($150.00) or course fee ($250.00) to: B&S Personal Safety and Firearms Education P.O. Box 501 Owings Mills MD 21117-0501 by 01/16/16. Confirmation of your registration and additional course information will be sent to you via email after fee has been paid. Please send any questions to Michael Bruzdzinski (mcbruzdzinski@bspsafe.com) Mandatory Pre-qualification schedule as follows: 9:00AM on 01/03/16 and 01/10/16. Note that there is a non-refundable $25.00 fee (part of class fee) for the practical pre-qualification. Basic Instructor Training (BIT) begins 01/29/2016 @ 8:30AM. Shotgun instructor course begins after the completion of BIT on 01/31/2016. Complete schedule will be provided at the beginning of BIT. (taken from NRAInstructors.org – Portal for NRA Certified Instructors, NRA Education and Training registration page)”

Ignore the cost/deposit for Arlington members. Just put “Arlington Member” in the comment box on the registration page so I know that the person is an Arlington member and will be paying the $100.00 fee.

Also note that the practical prequalification requires that you must be able to hit 13 out of 25 birds on trap (download the linked form). I will be available for pre-qualification trap sessions

NRA Membership Renewals

NRA Membership Renewals

While you are reading the latest and great news on the ARPC web page you may have noted hot button icons along the right hand side of the page. I call your attention to the NRA icon topping the list. Please use it with your next renewal. The club receives a stipend (commission) with each online membership. If you are considering a life membership the NRA has tempting discounts available. They are as follows:

Lifetime memberships for $375.00 if you are a DAV or over 64 years of age.

If you are of geezer age or a DAV, click on the Juniors, Distinguished or Other Memberships tab for your selection.

Lifetime memberships are available for $500.00 (reduced rate until 31 December 2015).

Typically lifetime memberships cost $1000.00. The rate will increase on the new year to $1500.00.

Occasionally, the NRA discounts rates throughout the year but it is unknown if that trend will continue.

If you are considering a lifetime membership at the $500.00 rate, do not use the icon as it does not support
the $500.00 rate. Call the NRA at 1-877-NRA-2000 (M-F 8-9 and Sat 9-6).

Finally, an interest free, credit card installment plan (easy pay) is available for discounted lifetime memberships BUT the cost is $600.00 vice $500.00.

If you do call for renewal be prepared for additional offers.
