January 2014 ARPC Newsletter

December and January were snowy months for Arlington.

The snow held off until 1:00 p.m. for our 200 yard steel plate rifle shoot in December. We had a great turn out. Dave brought the propane heater, we had hotdogs, chips, hot chocolate and a good turnout. A big thanks to all of the volunteers who helped set up and put away the steel targets.

Our Juniors shed maintenance day was cancelled due to poor conditions and cold weather. We will schedule a maintenance day when the weather moderates.

We had a terrific turnout at our steel plate pistol shoot. The toy targets took a beating, but the steel targets held up great. We had hot chocolate, hotdogs, chips and cookies. Thank you to everyone for helping set up and take down our targets.

We are finishing out the month with a Wobble Trap shoot on Sunday, January 26th, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

We have a big month planned for February.

February 8th we have a steel plate rifle shoot at the Barnes Multi purpose Range from 9:00 – 2:00.

February 9th we have a Fundraiser Frame Build benefitting our Juniors team from 9:00 – 12:00 in the lower Barnes Range House. No tools or experience is required. We work on an assembly line where each person performs one or two simple tasks. We normally finish building frames in less than two hours. Our Juniors rely on our fundraisers, so please come out and give us a hand. It is a lot of fun and you leave knowing you made a difference for our Juniors team.

Wednesday, February 12th, Club Meeting from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. We will be having a guest speaker, Mr. John Josselyn, who is the Legislative Vice-President for the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore. John will be discussing the gun bills that are being proposed by the Maryland Legislature. Please check out the legislative session of the AGC website for the latest developments: http://www.associatedgunclubs.org . There is an automated email tool that allows you to email every legislator in the Maryland General Assembly with the click of a button.

February 22nd, we will be having a steel plate pistol shoot at the pistol range from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m. We will be shooting steel plates, plastic toys, softballs and paper targets. We will also be having a team stake shoot.

SPECIAL EVENT: There is a 2A rally in Annapolis on February 4th . The Maryland Legislature is hard at work to further restrict our gun rights and impose fees on guns and a 50% tax on ammunition. We will try to do car pools for anyone who might be interested. We had a great time last year at the rally.

We have some changes that are coming to our 2014 schedule that we would like to talk about at our next club meeting. We are planning a 3 gun shoot on April 6th. We are also going to be adding some different venues for our shoots to keep things interesting.

Have a great February!

Reminder: Sunday pistol shoot – Volunteers needed

To Arlington Club members and guests,

We are having a steel plate pistol shoot this Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the pistol range. We will be having food and refreshments. We will need help setting up and taking down the targets. Please bring a cordless drill if you have one. We need to set up the frames and hang the targets. The pistol shoots are a little more involved than the rifle shoots, because we also put out a display of plastic toys and balls to shoot. It should be a lot of fun.

Thank you,

ARPC Newsletter for January 2014

To Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club Members and Guests,

We had a terrific turnout at the 200 yard Steel plate rifle shoot on December 14th. No one went away hungry, we had chili dogs, hot dogs, soft drinks, chips and cookies. Dave brought a propane heater so we could warm our buns. They were calling for snow, but it held off until 1:00. About 35 members and guests had a great time ringing out the year by shooting steel plates. A big thanks to everyone who helped out with setting up and taking down the targets. We couldn’t do these shoots without your help.

Arlington has the following club events scheduled for January 2014:

Sunday, January 5th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon we will be having a Juniors Shed work party at the Juniors Shed which is located at the end of the Barnes Multi Purpose range. We will be cleaning out and organizing the Juniors shed and replacing the wood frames for our club targets. We will be saving the old 2 x 4 boards to have a stake shoot on January 12th.

Wednesday, January 8th from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Club meeting at Memorial Hall. We are looking for some volunteers to help us plan this years shoots. We want to do some more 3-gun and some action pistol shooting. We are always looking for new ideas to keep our shoots interesting and fun. We will be having a show and tell for those of you who have something interesting to share with your club members. We will also have the Arlington Swap Table at the back of the room. If you have anything to sell, trade or give away, we will reserve the back counter in Memorial Hall for it’s display. There will be a question and answer time at the end of the meeting for anyone who has a firearms related question.

Sunday, January 12th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Steel Plate Pistol Shoot at the Pistol Range. We need some volunteers to be there at 8:00 a.m. to help set up the targets and at 2:00 p.m. to help take down the target frames. We will be shooting steel plates at 50 yards, plastic toys and balls at 25 yards and paper targets at 10 yards. We will also be having a stake shoot. A stake shoot is where we have two 2 x 4 targets with three to four shooters shooters per target. The object is to see which team can cut the 2 x 4 stake in half first by shooting them. No caliber restrictions. You are guaranteed to have a lot of fun participating or cheering for your favorite team.

Sunday, January 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. we will be having a Bust Fest at the Trap Range. Stock up on your target loads. Remember they should be #7.5, #8 or #9 shot Target Loads with a FPS 1200 or under. Walmart, Dicks, Bass Pro often have these in stock. Cabela’s or the Sportsman’s Guide are also good sources.

Best wishes to you and your family in this coming year!
