Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club – April 2013 Newsletter

April was a busy month for Arlington.

We had four club shoots this month.

April 6th: The Charity Wobble Shoot on April 6th was successful, considering the Wobble Trap was down. Arlington members and guests made the best of it using the Lincoln Traps and turned the wobble shoot into a bust fest. Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club ended up donating three large boxes of food and $109 to the Little Sisters of the Poor St. Martin’s Home located in Catonsville. Many of the elderly residents in their care were living in poverty, before coming to St. Martin’s home. The Little Sisters were very grateful for the generous donation made by Arlington Rifle and Pistol Club.

April 20th: We had a steel plate centerfire rifle shoot at the 100-yard Barnes Multi-Purpose Range. Club members had fun shooting steel plates with rifles. We are the only club who has done this. After shooting steel plates, it’s hard to go back to shooting paper.

April 20th: on the same day, Arlington was invited to cohost a 3-gun Shoot with Greenbelt. Greenbelt did an outstanding job of designing the shoot. A big thanks to club members who pitched in to help with setting up and running the shoot. Arlington club members had a blast knocking down steel plates with buckshot, shooting targets with rifle and pistols. It was a well-run event and participants and spectators had a great time.

April 27th: What a spectacular day for a Bust Fest! I can’t remember ever having such terrific weather. We all had a terrific time soaking up the sun and breaking a lot of clays. It doesn’t get much better than this!!!

Our April Frame Build was a record breaker again. We built over 72 standard frames. We had a great time and raised a lot of money for the Arlington Juniors.

Upcoming events in May:

May 8th – Arlington Club Meeting will be held in Memorial Hall from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Topics will be: the Arlington sponsored Libby Small Bore Match coming up on June 8th. Budget items, upcoming shoots, firearms training plans, etc. Bring a Show and Tell item if you have one to share with the club. We will have the Arlington Swap Meet at the back of the room if you have any items to sell, trade or give away. We will also have a question and answer time for anyone who has a firearms related question to ask club members.

Saturday, May 11th – we will be having a Fundraiser Frame Build from 9:00 – 12:30 a.m. in the basement classroom of the Barnes Range House. No experience or tools are necessary. We have an assembly line production where each person performs one or two simple tasks. It is a lot of fun and helping out our Juniors gives everyone a great feeling.

Saturday, May 18th Bust Fest – Don’t miss the next bust fest!!! They are a terrific opportunity to do some shooting that you can’t do at the normal AGC trap shoot. It’s a lot of fun. If you haven’t shot trap before or don’t have a shotgun, come on out and give it a try. We have shotguns you can try out. Remember only target loads are permitted at the AGC trap range. We can use: Only shells firing a maximum powder load of 3 dram equivalent, shot size 7
1/2, 8 or 9 shot, and a maximum muzzle velocity of 1200 fps allowed.

May 26th – Arlington will be having another steel plate rifle shoot with centerfire rifle at the 100 yard Barnes Multi- purpose rifle range from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

***Please put the June 8th Libby Match on your calendar. This is an Arlington sponsored event. We need a lot of volunteers. We will have coffee and donuts in the morning and provide lunch to our volunteers.

Thank you!
